Learn to live well with depression

Mindset is an app that uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-based exercises to help you manage and live well with depression. The eight-step program was created by Koa Health in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). It’s currently being tested as part of a clinical research study.

About the study

Many people can’t get the help they need due to the cost of treatment or lack of available therapists. We hope that Mindset can help them address their depression. Taking part in the study is free. It includes access to the app and virtual sessions with a therapist.

HOW THE STUDY WORKS

Focused on MDD

Major depressive disorder (MDD) impacts about 7% of people*. You often feel sad, tired, irritable and/or fidgety. It can also make you pull away from friends and family and stop doing things you enjoy.

Backed by science

Mindset uses exercises based on CBT. They may help you recognize symptoms of MDD and change unhelpful thinking. You’ll also learn new skills that may help improve your mood.

One-on-one support

You’ll meet virtually with your therapist each week. You can also send them non-urgent messages directly through the app.

What’s CBT?

Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT, is a proven method used for depression. It shows you how to notice unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It also teaches you strategies to think and act in healthier ways. In Mindset, you’ll learn to see your own thinking traps and do activities to improve your energy and mood.

Led by experts

The study has been reviewed by an Institutional Review Board and is being conducted by leading clinicians at MGH.
